Installing and checking an SSL certificate in cPanel

Web Hosting 8 August 2026 Updated: 30 September 2026 2 min read Light Hosting Technical Team

HTTPS in cPanel requires a valid SSL certificate matching your domain. Automatic certificate management depends on your hosting provider’s AutoSSL configuration.

1. Prepare the domain

Add the domain to your hosting account. Check that DNS points to the correct server and does not prevent certificate validation.

2. Inspect certificate status

Use the SSL/TLS certificate and status screens in cPanel’s security section to check domain coverage and expiry. Screen names can vary by version.

3. Test HTTPS access

Open the domain over HTTPS and verify coverage for the main domain and any subdomains you use. If validation fails, inspect the validation log and DNS/CAA records. Monitor expiry rather than assuming automatic renewal has succeeded.
