Plan an Unturned Dedicated Server on a VDS, resolve Workshop dependencies and preserve world saves during updates.

Dedicated Server and the first connection

Manage dedicated server files separately from the game client. Follow SDG’s installation guide and start with a default map, so base installation failures can be separated from Workshop issues. Grant only the permissions administrators need.

What to check when Workshop content fails

List each map’s Workshop dependencies and inspect download/startup logs for missing items, version mismatches or file errors. Adding an item does not verify all its dependencies. Test the most recent addition separately instead of changing every mod at once.

Updating while preserving world saves

Stop the server before backing up saves, configuration and the Workshop list to a separate location. Verify restoration with a test copy. After an update, check content compatibility and reconnect before admitting players.
