Survival Evolved versus Ascended

ARK: Survival Evolved and Survival Ascended are separate editions. Do not interchange server files, mods or resource recommendations. This Light Hosting ARK guide focuses on ASE. Verify player edition and platform, and do not assume cross-platform support.

Fixing a map and mod list for testing

Test a consistent map, server version and mod list. Check the version of any client that cannot connect. After updates, distinguish mod incompatibility from insufficient resources. Back up saves before removing mods because modded objects can affect world data.

Save and configuration backups

Include world saves, player/community data and configuration. Stop the server cleanly for a consistent copy. Keep backups off the same disk and verify restoration in a test setup. Avoid changing many mods and the game version simultaneously without a rollback plan.

Evaluating ARK VDS resources

Maps, mods, saves and the number of concurrent server instances affect resource use. Do not infer RAM from player slots alone. Budget each extra process separately and leave storage for updates and backups. Reassess the plan using measurements from a real save.

Setup checklist

1. Verify players’ ASE edition and platform.
2. Test a base map and record the mod list.
3. Back up the world and configuration with the server stopped.
4. Verify startup in a test copy after mod/game updates.

When something goes wrong

For post-update connection errors, check client/server versions and mod compatibility. Do not apply ASE RAM guidance to ASA.
